Guidon

       The Guidon is the designated flag bearer meant to represent a specific company and battalion with their chosen flag during events, inspections and ceremonies. To choose Washington's battalion guidon, the 5 guidons from each of our 5 companies compete against each other during the Fall Battalion Competition. The winner from this competition then earns the privilege of competing at the Brigade Fall Competition against the guidons from the other battalions in the city. We hold another Battalion Competition in the spring to determine the who will bear the Guidon and represent us over the course of our annual spring encampment.

Squad Drill

       Squad drill is a sequence of drill that a party of six march to, and each year they compete at the Annual Fall Competition. There, the top squads from each battalion compete to claim the trophy for the best squad in the brigade. Although it only seems like a sheet of paper that tells you what to do, you learn to understand that it's not just a list of commands. Gradually, you learn that everyone either succeeds together or fails together and you can only succeed if you work as a single unit. In essence, the squad drill team emphasizes on teamwork, leadership, dedication and loyalty.

Drill Platoon

       The Drill Platoon by definition is a 4 by 4 group formation with a platoon leader and a platoon sergeant who command the platoon together. As a team, Drill Platoon focuses on marching and drilling as one unit. The team learns discipline through precision of movements and their response to the commander's orders. They apply this discipline and exactness to their everyday lives. During the annual Fall Competition we show the city how disciplined and exact we are in our drill.
